The First Tee program doesn’t just get kids on the course, it offers them exciting opportunities for growth. With the help of our corporate partners, we host a series of events to our more advanced participants, allowing them to meet new people, play some golf, achieve greatness, and show off our nine core values in action.
This year, the Wells Fargo Succeeding Together contest is encouraging First Tee participants to showcase how the core values have helped them on their personal journey to become better students, better citizens, better golfers and better prepared for life. Ten finalists will be chosen and then ultimately four winners, each of whom will win a trip to the 2020 Wells Fargo Championship with one grand prize winner experiencing the thrill of playing golf with a PGA TOUR pro during the pro-am.
The Unified Challenge will be a President’s Cup team event with golfers from First Tee paired as teammates with wounded veterans and Special Olympics golfers from around the country. In addition to playing two rounds of golf at some of the top courses in the nation’s capital, golfers will also enjoy a welcome banquet, a career exploration day at Perfect Sense, a tour of DC’s monuments and museums, and a final send off at Top Golf!
This all-girls event will focus on leadership development, remaining active in the game of golf, learning the value/impact of volunteerism, and recognizing the importance of teamwork. Applicants will be asked to define the people or circumstances that ‘drive’ them to take on a position of leadership and describe how they plan to apply those principles in their life. The academy will take place in the city of San Francisco, where participants will be immersed in both its historic and modern culture.
This event provides five participants a once in a lifetime experience in the city of Atlanta. Selected participants will engage in a customized guided tour at Coca-Cola Headquarters, Networking opportunity with a young professional panel, VIP experience at the TOUR Championship, and have a chance to visit attractions in the heart of downtown. Participants who are chosen for this opportunity should be active in their community and local chapter and must exhibit the core values of the First Tee in their everyday lives. Throughout the week, participants will meet with executives and take part in interviews to determine the winner of a $5,000 scholarship; the four remaining runners-up will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Participants will submit a written essay for the opportunity to win a $5,000 college scholarship plus the opportunity to be a VIP guest and pro-am participant at the John Deere Classic in Silvis, IL. The essay should focus on how the students are a ‘Power for Good’ through service to their communities, schools, and/or neighborhoods. The essay should include a summary of the impact of their efforts and how their work is connected to the values learned through The First Tee and the game of golf.
